Sheltered Reality

Founded in 1996, Sheltered Reality is a nonprofit musical organization whose performing membership spans all ages (currently as young as 6 and as old as 76!!).  However, the majority of the members are youth age 7-18 who come from practice sites located in Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming (with more sites and states to come).  SR believes that Music can have Meaning, yet be a blast at the same time!  SR performances use the power of percussion set to music, as well as high energy choreography, to engage and then motivate audiences to realize that any person, at any age in life, can dream and succeed.  Success is first demonstrated through audience drum lessons followed by one or more audience participating songs; these always prove to be fun for audience members of all ages.  However, SR then uses stories of hardship and triumph, as well as a sequence of Steps of Success to teach personal empowerment, character building and ultimately translate the drum-playing success into something much more important:  success in changing the world, and especially helping advocate for youth in crisis...the ultimate mission of Sheltered Reality.

Mission Statement

Sheltered Reality employs the power of music to engage and motivate audiences to make positive changes both in themselves and the world they live in.  Through stories of hardship and triumph and a sequence of Steps of Success, SR teaches personal empowerment and character building, and then encourages the application of these abilities to its primary focus of advocacy for youth in crisis.

Music with Meaning

SR choreographed drumming provides fun and invigorating entertainment and it is rewarding for us as performers when audiences enjoy our music.  However there is a deeper purpose without our presentations.  Music is a universal language and SR uses this opening to speak to the hearts of our audiences by way of personal  stories and letters.  These are not words about strangers, but of members of one human family. People that have displayed courage, commitment, and genuine concern for the welfare of others, even under trial.  This process is meant to inspire all to not only become better individuals, but to take action to help others succeed in life as well.  We all do have the power to make changes and to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors, and thus in the world around us.  This message is what gives true Meaning to our Music.

We are always looking for new members.
