At First Baptist Church, we feel that fundamentally the activities of the church fall into four areas; worship, connecting, growing and serving.
Worship at First Baptist
Worship at First Baptist Church is relaxed, diverse, creative and joyful. As we design worship the ultimately goal is to have a shared experience with the Spirit of God. We do this through music, reading, dance, drama, call and response, liturgy and any other creative thing we can think of that creates a sense of worship. It is designed to be flexible while still maintaining flow and a sense of connection. It is familiar, but different. We incorporate many traditional elements along with some more contemporary one so in that sense our worship would be called “blended”. We have a wonderful Choir that inspires us and we enjoy congregational music that incorporates not only the organ, but we also utilize guitars and drums accompany the singing. The order of service is laid out in the bulletin along with either page numbers explaining where you can find the music and the readings, or they are written out for you to follow from the bulletin.
We celebrate the Lord’s Table on the first Sunday of every month. Communion is open to anyone; one need not be a member of the church or even Baptist to partake of the bread and the cup.
The invitation is extended to explore our church through our worship on Sunday morning and we pray that as you do, you are touch by the Spirit of God.
One of the most important things we do as a church family is fellowship. Often fellowship is just seen as social events. However, at First Baptist, we see fellowship as creating opportunities for people to connect with others in a deep and meaningful way. As we break bread and enjoy each other’s company, we will laugh together, cry together, pray with and for each other, support and nurture one another and really be that family of God that the church is designed to be. We invite you to get to know us through our many opportunities to connect with people on a deep and spiritual level.
Faith is a journey, and at First Baptist, we place a high value on helping each other along that journey. We encourage each participant in the church to be engaged in some kind of intentioned spiritual growth opportunity throughout the year. We recognize that people are at different places in their journey of faith so we try to provide opportunities that meet you where you are. We also know that people learn differently. Some enjoy discussion groups; others prefer to on their own. Whatever your learning style we are certain that you can find something at First Baptist that will provide the nourishment you need for your journey. Faith is a journey that lasts an entire lifetime. As a church, we embrace a discipline of life-long learning that will help each person grow, engage and move forward in faith.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to be his hands and feet in this world. We take this calling seriously and actively seek out opportunities to contribute to the good that is happening within our neighborhood(s), our country and the world; for no other purpose than to do good for good sake and not to grow our church or convert people to our religion. We eagerly partner with other churches, other faith groups and community organizations to impact the world in positive ways. We welcome you to join us in this effort.
